1963 - The Beatles released their fifth single, "I Want to Hold Your Hand," in the UK.
1968 - The Who's first concert record, The Who Sell Out, was released.
1969 - In London, John Lennon was convicted on charges of cannabis possession and fined $360. Yoko Ono, arrested with her husband on October 18, was cleared of charges.
1976 - Jerry Lee Lewis shot Norman "Butch" Owens, his very own bass player, twice in the chest while attempting to fire upon a soda bottle. The animated piano man would be charged with shooting a firearm within city limits.
1977 - KISS released Alive II.
1979 - The four founding members of KISS played their last show together. They later reunited in 1996 for a makeup tour.
1979 - Anita Pallenburg, the common-law wife of Keith Richards, was cleared of murder charges in the shooting death of a young male companion.
1979 - Paul Simon filed a pair of lawsuits against his record label in hopes of severing his contract.
1982 - Metallica performed their in their first headlining show. rocking out with the song "Whiplash." Exodus served as the opening act.
1992 - U2's Zoo TV Outside Broadcast, their first TV special, aired on television.
1993 - Metallica's box set Binge & Purge was released. The set contained three CDs, three videos and an accompanying book.
1995 - Sammy Hagar married model Kari Karte.
