1961 - Bob Dylan tracked down the family of his hero, Woody Guthrie, on his second day in New York. Finding them in Howard Beach, Dylan taught Arlo a few lines on the harmonica.

1963 - Janis Joplin gave her first performance in San Francisco, singing at the North Beach coffeehouse.

1971 - Grace Slick and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane welcomed a daughter, China, into the world.

1971 - Beatles-inspired sociopath Charles Manson was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of seven counts of murder in the first degree and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.

1980 - Paul McCartney, after being busted with marijuana and imprisoned in Tokyo, was released and headed to somewhere more accomodating... Amsterdam.
